The traditional Chinese pillow box is a well-known object. With its slightly softer leather sloping lid, it was used by travelers centuries ago to guard their money and jewels during the night. They would place important valuables in the elegant box and then sleep with their head resting on it - hence the name. Our leather pillow box is handcrafted and dyed a deep red. The antiqued surface is then decorated by hand using a delicate gold leaf. Due to its hand-crafted nature, no two are colored exactly the same. They can vary from a very deep red, to a lighter red, making yours one-of-a-kind! Handles and closures are brass and iron, and the inside is decorated with traditional Chinese calligraphy and symbols. It measures 13 inches wide, 4 inches high and 4 inches deep.
